The 2019 comic-book inspired Joker is one of the most talked about movies of the past decade, and for good reason. Stepping into the Batman villain role that won Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar for The Dark Knight, Joaquin Phoenix also went on to earn an Academy Award for his incredible performance. Although director Todd Phillips’ unsettling portrait of a loner pushed to the edge was originally intended to be just one movie, the pair are reuniting on a sequel. Joker: Folie à Deux trailer teases stunning musical sequel

The highly-anticipated sequel is officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux, which translates roughly to “shared madness”, for those wondering.

A trailer has dropped at long last, showcasing Joaquin’s stunning reprisal of the disturbed character Arthur Fleck, now locked away in Arkham Asylum after the events of the preceding film.

Surprisingly, the movie has been billed as a musical and will contain a string of cover songs. As you’d expect, the decision to blend musical numbers with the psychological tone of the original has divided audiences already.

On the other hand, they have the perfect cast member for the job in Lady Gaga, the iconic singer-songwriter with more hits than Arthur has followers. She’s portraying the Joker’s henchwoman, Harley Quinn, who was recently played by Margot Robbie in DC Extended Universe movies like Suicide Squad and Birds Of Prey.

Her acting ability has already been proven after parts in House Of Gucci, American Horror Story, and more importantly, A Star Is Born.

Fans think Lady Gaga has ‘Oscar in the bag’ already

Speaking of A Star Is Born, the 2018 romantic drama with Bradley Cooper earned Lady Gaga an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, yet the statue was instead won by Olivia Colman for the period-drama comedy The Favorite.

She may have missed out on taking the award home back then, but fans are convinced that she’s coming for the Best Actress Oscar next year for her turn as the twisted comic-book villain.

“Lady Gaga has the Oscar in the bag!” a fan tweeted in confident triumph after the impressive Joker: Folie à Deux trailer.

“As a musical lover,” one commented on the trailer, “this movie getting the highest budget and Lady Gaga as the lead for a musical film, is like a dream come true and then some more!”

“I’m fully on board for the Lady Gaga/Joaquin Phoenix double trouble Oscar sweep,” another chimed in on Twitter. “Lady Gaga Oscar winner!” yet another bluntly predicted.

Stills of her performance have already begun to circulate online with the help of passionate fans, and honestly, they may be bang on the money this time. The only downside is how long we have to wait to see Lady Gaga unleash her full Harley energy.
